Since crowdfunding first hit the online scene, it’s been used for raising funds for music. From high-profile musicians like Amanda Palmer and Hell or Highwater (featuring Atreyu’s Brandon Saller) to small-time indie musicians seeking to record their first EP, musicians have frequently made use of sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo to fund their musical endeavors.
Georgia’s metal underground scene has two such crowdfunding projects in progress right now, and you should help.
DEAD RITES is an Atlanta punk/metal fusion band that has recently come out of hiatus after the death of the lead singer’s father. The band was formerly signed to Hedonism Records, through which they released two studio albums (In the Midst of Malevolence and Reborn) and one live album (Dead Alive). They have since made a comeback, and after a previous contract fell through, they have turned to Indiegogo to fund the $5000 needed to record their fourth album.
This album, titled BEREAVEMENT, is according to the band “a mixture of all [their] influences” and is estimated for release by Halloween 2015. At the time of writing, their Indiegogo campaign has reached 11% of their stated goal, though with the campaign registered under flexible funding, the band will be receiving any money made regardless of whether the goal is reached.
The campaign is set to end on March 3 at 11:59 PM PT.

RESIST CAPTURE is a progressive/metalcore band from Atlanta. Formed in 2013 and with one EP under their belts, these guys are new but intent on carving out a name for themselves in Georgia’s metal scene.
The band is seeking a fraction of the funding at $500 for their debut studio album ENVISIONARY. At the time of writing, their campaign on Kickstarter has already 17% of their total goal. The band has not put a cap on their CD reward, so just 30 more album preorders would cement their goal.
ENVISIONARY is estimated for release by July 2015. The campaign is set to end on February 26 at 11:44 PM EST.
