"The Devil Down in Georgia" Compilation CD

Macon Metal is working on a compilation CD-R for Record Store Day in April, to be included with copies of the zine. The compilation is intended to be a celebration of the local heavy music scenes.

We are accepting tracks from any genre within our typical field (rock, punk, metal, hardcore, grunge, noise, etc.). The track does not have to be an exclusive one, and we hold no rights to tracks submitted. We reserve the right to turn down tracks from inclusion. We will not accept overly inappropriate material. ("Overly inappropriate" is, essentially, any song containing content that Neo-Nazis would approve of.) The maximum song length is roughly 10 minutes (though a few seconds over is fine).

New Calendar Page

As everybody who works with bands likely knows at this point, shows are constantly being scheduled and rescheduled, delayed and cut out entirely. We'd originally planned to just post a list of shows every month, but considering how many shows get added or removed at zero hour, we've decided that an easier solution would be to have a calendar page.

This page contains a Google calendar that we update and maintain as we get details about new shows or album releases, which is a lot easier to manage than constantly updating the same blog post over and over. In addition, as it's a Google calendar, if you have your own Google Apps account you're able to copy specific events to your own calendar or even sync our entire calendar to yours.

The calendar format is also much more intuitive and makes it easier for you to find shows on specific dates. To get more information on any given show listed, you can just click on the link on that date and it will create a small popup with further information including location, local bands playing, age limits, cover/ticket price, etc. We also include a link to a Facebook event, if applicable.

Of course, if you're in a band and don't see your show or album release listed, just drop us an email or Facebook message—we'll post it ASAP.

Zines Are In!

We've finally got copies of the inaugural print issue of Macon Metal #1 in! It's a Xeroxed half-sized zine (5.5"x8.5") with covers printed on blue and green card and stapled along the spine. There will only be 50 of these printed, and they're all signed and numbered by Wülf and Ram.

As it's our first, it's a short one at ~35 pages long, but we hope to have even more content in future issues! This particular one includes new/upcoming releases, a calendar of events in January, several short album/EP reviews, new bands to watch, articles on women in metal and social media, and of course our two earlier interviews with Machinist! and Apollo.

All the content from the zine will be slowly released on the site throughout the course of the month, but if you want to get it all at the same time, you'll have to pick it up at our new webstore here for $3, and that includes national postage. (We may have them distributed at other locations soon, too—we'll keep you updated on that.)

All zine orders placed through our webstore will also come with a small bonus thrown in, which could be anything from a sticker to a button to a flyer or a doodle.

We hope you enjoy it, and we're eager to get started on February's issue!

A Word of Explanation

I was a little strange as a child and pre-teen: I didn't much care for music. That wasn't to say that I actively disliked music or anything; I'd gladly listen to it if someone wanted me to hear something. But if you asked me what any of my favorite bands or songs were, I didn't have an answer for you.
